Poor Man's Noise Isolating Headphones?

Disclosure: This is a joke (a bad one), don't try it.
Earbuds + Earmuffs = ?
When you get bored and stupid, you try things that don't require spending a lot of money. Today, I decided to see how well earbuds and earmuffs used for hearing protection would work. Just put on earbuds from a music player and a cheap set of earmuffs (~$20), and boom, you get noise isolating headphones for dirt cheap?

I thought I'd be able to turn my earbuds down and have better sound. Nope.

Muddled sound, earphones felt even less loud than in a relatively quiet office with some background noise. Sound sucked and everything sounded flatter than normal.

Damn you, science of acoustics. It doesn't pay to be cheap...

Earbuds + Earmuffs = Fail
