Price Tracking (Canada): Canon SX50, Sennheiser Momentum Over Ear, Sennheiser HD 598

Not another "hot deals" site, no.

I find myself stalking certain products every now and then. Being in Canada, it's actually a bit harder than plain googling because most sites that come up are for American retailers. They usually do ship to Canada with a fairly hefty shipping fee and customs tacks on another big chunk of change at the border. Adding "Canada" to the search parameters does yield mostly Canadian retailers, but having about an eighth of the population of the country directly to the south means a lot fewer choices. Long short, there's no way to really win.

Anyways, here are some interesting deals for stuff that I've discussed or reviewed recently on this website. Some aren't on sale anymore at the time of posting, especially if you come across this post down the line. However, I find it useful sometimes to know what the lowest the price something has been at.

Canon SX50: CAD$ 339.88 at The Source
Deal ends October 30, 2013 according to the website. I actually bought this camera recently enough that I was able to price-match it at Best Buy.

Sennheiser Momentum Over Ears: CAD$ 260-ish at The Source
Deal ended a few weeks ago back in September, so this is more of a historic thing if you're interested in them. As I'm writing this, the website shows the regular price at $369.99. However, there was a few day long "friends and family" type sale where there was a coupon for 30% off headphones. This means that the price was $258.99. I almost got them, but the Future Shop I went to didn't allow price matches with coupon deals. Same deal during the weekend of October 11 to October 13.

They didn't fit me that well, so I passed on them. Kind of second-guessing myself now. The problem I encountered was the problem I've read about where the cups are too small for the ear, which results in the over-ear headphone being more like on-ears. I should be able to tuck my ears into the cups like I do with my earmuffs.

These headphones are usually available on Amazon.ca for a regular price of $350-ish. I've even seen them as low as $325.

Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones: CAD$ 249.99 at Amazon.ca
Because of the problem I encountered with the momentums being too small, I started looking for another pair. The one I found some good reviews for was the Sennheiser HD 598. They're cheaper than the Momentums, which is nice, but they have velour ear cushions and are "open" cans -- relatively poor noise isolation.

My experience with the HD 439s also doesn't help because I can't stand the smell of off-gassing foam (i.e. PVC shower curtain smell) that the velour pads emit. To be fair, I think the smell is finally mostly gone from my HD 439s after a half year of airing out by a window. Maybe the HD 598s, being more expensive headphones, doesn't have the same problem. Worst case I air them out for 6 months.
